The numbers have just been released from the annual Scout Association Census and we’re proud to see a huge 7.8% growth!
Membership now stands at a fantastic 618,000 people, with the fastest growing locations being:
- Mid Glamorgan
- County Londonderry
- Snowdonia and Anglesey
- Central Yorkshire
Whilst membership is the largest number, there are 154,000 volunteers across the UK making Scouting possible for 6-25 year olds every day. While this number is certainly an impressive one, The Scout Association are still in need of as many more volunteers as they can get their hands on. There are currently 51,000 young people wanting to join The Scout Association, meaning they require another 17,000 volunteers! Many of our staff are active volunteers, at Group and District level here in Cheshire.
154,000 volunteers allow the fun and adventure of Scouting to happen on a daily basis across the UK!
We’ve also been celebrating the 14 years of continual growth here in Cheshire! We’ve got over 10,074 members and 3,358 adults. Our own District, Chester has the largest growth in our County with 172 new members joining in the past year.
Chief Commissioner Tim Kidd says:
“I’m calling on adults who want to make a difference to the lives of young people in their communities to give Scouting a go. We know that not having enough time is the main barrier to volunteering among adults, which is why we want to make it easier by offering flexibility in a range of roles from Scout group leaders to administrative and trustee positions.”
Do you need to enhance growth in your area, either by encouraging new members to join or adults to volunteer? One of the best ways to do this is to produce a website making it easy to find information, contact your team or find training courses. Feel free to get in touch with our team if you require any advice.
