3 Things to Look Forward to in September

There is lots to look forward to this September, take a look at how you can plan and prepare for a month based around some exciting Scouts events.

04th September 2020
2020 has been a long, difficult year, but has somehow also flown by! No matter what age you are, be it in school or a grown-up, September always feels like the beginning of something new.

However, you can step into this new month with lots of things to look forward to, some of which might even help with planning your first face-to-face Scout meetings, or with continuing your digital communications.

Return to Scouting

This week, many Scout Groups up and down the country have begun taking steps to return to physical and face-to-face meetings. This will be the first time in months many will have had the opportunity to see their friends, leaders and other familiar faces.

With new risks to assess and otherwise-unknown circumstances to prepare for, it’s bound to be a learning curve. But take this opportunity to make the most of the gradual return to a slightly more normal way of life.

You can get yourself fully prepared for the return to Scouting by reading through the following blog posts:

Self-Care September

Action for Happiness is an organisation (or movement of people) who are ‘committed to building a happier and more caring society’.

Every month they have a different theme to work towards in order to create a more positive lifestyle. Every September is centred around self-care, where the charity encourages people to take small daily actions to be kinder to both themselves and others.

September is often a hectic month, but this year it is likely to be more event filled than ever before as we return to work, school and face-to-face Scouting. This means that you may find it challenging to find the time to look after yourself. These daily tasks can be a great way of teaching Scouts how they can take action to take care of themselves whilst coping with a significant shift in their pace of life.

Each day has a different task to complete for Self-Care September!

Second Hand September

Another alliterated event, Second Hand September is an initiative run by Oxfam with the aim of getting people to pledge to shop only second hand for 30 days or more.

Every week, the UK sends around 13 million items of clothing to landfill. Second Hand September is a great way to teach all age groups of Scouts from Beavers, right up to Explorers and Network about the environmental and humanitarian consequences of fast fashion.

It’s also a great way to open a wider conversation about the impacts of buying brand new items, rather than recycling or buying second-hand.
